BALANGA CITY, Bataan – On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, Balanga City got a 9 rating, leaving one point for improvement. This is the information shared by Ms. Cheryl C. Ortega, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Luzon Cluster 2 Director, in an interview as to why Balanga City was selected to be one of the five (5) pilot provinces in Luzon for the Rural Impact Sourcing (RIS), Technical Training Opening Ceremony at the Emiliana Hall, yesterday.

Director Ortega added that Balanga City really has a “pool of talents” and we have proven these with our many projects with the LGU in the past years.

With the RIS project partnership of DICT with Balanga City, Ortega said, “that they are impressed with what has been going on, that there have been challenges but they are optimistic that at the end of the day, the intention for which the project has been noted and conceptualized, will be achieved.

Mayor Francis Garcia on his part said, that he is happy with the feedback, that what is happening today is the very vision of Balanga City that all students in the University Town will have the knowledge and technology for economic development, that long before this project (RIS) started, they already have established the I-Hub learning centers in different barangays, where students can do their assignments and learn about information technology and later on help them find meaningful ICT related jobs in the future.

During the opening of the RIS Technical Training, the project overview, schedule, guidelines and rules for the 20 trainees, who can already be called as scholars, were discussed, by Mr. Milan Mamalateo.

The highlight of the program was the MOA signing between scholars (as consultants) and the MSME’s (as clients) in their partnership undertaking on online marketing strategy.

The 20 scholars, with the MSME’s will undergo 10 days training (3 days for MSME’s) with Mr. Edgardo Genesis Reonico Jr as the trainor on the 10 modules on Branding Company products, web development, product photography and many more, for the scholars to be trained as competent freelancers.
