Balanga City showcases KaAniB harvests

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The city government here thru the city agriculture office is presently showcasing the harvests of the KaAniB program in front of the city hall since yesterday, September 26, until September 30. The activity was announced today in their Facebook page “Agriculture Cob.” “Simula taong 2008 hanggang sa kasalukuyan ay patuloy na pinapalaganap sa buong Lungsod ng Balanga ang programang KAANIB,” the FB post said.

KaAniB or the Kasama Ani sa Barangay is a project of then city mayor now 2nd district congressman Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III being implemented for the past eight years where idle lands in 25 barangays (villages) are converted into small vegetable gardens.

Congressman Garcia is also encouraging the barangay officials to always include the youth in their agriculture-related activities. The neophyte solon said, in a recent activity, that he has high hopes for KaAniB not just to become the city’s prime program, but the whole province as well, to ignite interest in agriculture among the young generation.

The incumbent city mayor Francis Garcia cites agriculture as one of his major concerns among the component city’s basic programs.

Recently, the first-termer city mayor urged his fellow Balanguenios to use organic farming carrying a theme: “Gawing luntian ating kapaligiran, gamit ang organikong pamamaraan. Go Organic, Go Sustansiya.” The organic harvest is also available at the city hall plaza on October 3-5, 2016.

Mayor Garcia also gave financial assistance to the city farmers through the “Plant Now Pay Later Program” giving every farmer a P15 thousand working capital without any interest or collateral from the farmers.

Recently, Mayor Garcia, Vice Mayor Vianca Gozon, City Councilor Anselmo Sanchez and the rest of the city council distributed 84 bags of urea fertilizers to the farmers affected by the El Nino phenomenon thru the support of Congressman Joet Garcia and the Department of Agriculture Regional Office.
