Balanga’s tuyo, tapa to be wrapped in brown paper

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The city council of Balanga wants processed marine products like tuyo (dried fish) and tapa (smoked fish) to be wrapped in brown paper instead of newspaper when being sold in the market.

“There is already a proposed ordinance for the usage of brown paper instead of newspaper as wrapper for marine products when being sold in the market”, said Councilor Benjie Merino.

“Mayor Francis also wants this ordinance to be passed. We already held a public hearing for this”, the councilor said.

“It is not hygienic to use newspaper as wrapper and sometimes ink taints the processed fish”, he explained.

The councilor said Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gozon like the mayor also wants to pass the ordinance.

“Our visitors go to our market to buy tuyo, and it is time we sell them hygienically wrapped”, the councilor quoted the vice mayor saying.
