Bataan all-set for Freedom Run 2017

CITY OF BALANGA, Bataan – The Veterans Bank, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB) thru the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO), City of Balanga, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), History Channel, Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) rolled out the schedule of activities for the 75th anniversary of Bataan Death March, earlier today in a press conference held at PGB Boardroom, Capitol Compound, this City.

Among those present in the presscon were Vice- President of Veteran’s Bank Mike Villareal; Gov. Albert Garcia; MBDA Chairman Charlie Pizarro; Orani Mayor Efren Pascual Jr., Mariveles Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion; Francis Initorio of AFAB, Hermosa Vice-Mayor Chris Vitug, Municipal Administrator of Dinalupihan Rolly Rojas, PTO Department Head Arch. Christina Enriquez, Mr. Bob Hudson, Mr. Patrick Martinet of Essilor and FABILA (FAB Investors & Locators Asso.) and representatives of the different media organizations in the region.

Highlighting the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Bataan Death March are two (2) major events that everyone can join— the Bataan Run on April 2 in Mariveles with 5 categories: 42 Km, 21 Km, 10 Km, 5 Km, and 1 Km race; and the other event is the 160 Km Ultra Marathon and Ultra Torch Relay from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac on April 10-11.

Minimal registration fees (inclusive of a singlet and a loot bag) range from Php200 or USD4.17 for 1 Km, PHP250 or USD5.21  for 5 Km, Php350 or 7.29 for 10 Km, Php550 or USD11.46 for 21 Km, Php650 or USD13.54 for 42 Km, Php3000 or USD63 for individual 160 Km Relay, and Php1500 or USD31 per member for 8-man and 16-man 160 Km Relay.

The aim is to bring the whole family in a meaningful event that remembers and honors our Filipino and American heroes who fought for the freedom that we now enjoy, hence the race events cater to a wide spectrum of runners, from the various ultra-marathoners, to the enthusiasts and even to the kids and their families’ pets.

Proceeds of the event will be used in the rehabilitation and restoration of Bataan Death March markers and other World War II memorials in the whole province.
