ORION, Bataan – Bataan Provincial Governor Abet Garcia recently graced the ceremonial ship launch of M/V Capt. John B. Lacson at Port Capinpin in this municipality.

The training ship is affiliated with John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University. M/V Capt. John B. Lacson, will cater to special training programs for Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering students.

The maritime university, in a statement, said it hopes it would equip students with skills needed to pursue careers as seafarers.

The ship was named after the distinguished captain who established a review center in his hometown in Iloilo, which later became the Iloilo Maritime Academy in 1948.

The school eventually became the JBLFMU in 1970 under the leadership of Lacson’s youngest daughter, Dr. Mary Lou Lacson-Arcelo.
