Bataan local government units are compliant with RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act. In fact, one municipality and one city had already put up their own sanitary landfills as mandated by RA 9003,” said Raul Mamac, provincial environment and natural resources officer (PENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Mamac said Mariveles and Limay towns are now set to establish their own sanitary landfills. At present, Abucay town and Balanga City are already operating their own SLFs, said Mamac.
He said the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program is a continuing undertaking and is the priority project of DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu. “Kahit dumarami ang tao, hindi naman nababawasan ang basura kaya tuluy-tuloy ang ating clean-up drive,” explained Mamac.

As mandated by RA 9003, LGUs are given three years to convert open dump sites to controlled dump sites, and finally, to build their own SLFs. “Halos lahat compliant naman sa Bataan,” he added.
