BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) is part of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Energy for All Initiative for its development of vertical-fed biomass cookstove.
“The cookstove, aside from not polluting the air, is safe, easy to use, consumes minimal fuel, durable and adaptable for different cooking purposes,” said BPSU Abucay Campus Director and inventor of the cookstove Engr. Jonathan Lacayanga.
Aiming to empower the poor through access to energy, ADB launched the Energy for All Partnership, a regional platform for cooperation, knowledge and technical exchange and project development, bringing together key stakeholders the from private sector, financial institutions, government and non-governmental development partners.
The partnership aims to provide access to safe, clean, affordable modern energy to an additional 100 million people in the Asian region.
In 2016, Lacayanga presented the vertical-fed biomass cookstove at the Asian Clean Energy Forum held at the Asian Development Bank Headquarters in Manila.
Attended by 1,200 participants from 60 countries, the forum was premier knowledge-sharing event for staying current with the developments and key issues in Asia’s clean energy sector
BPSU is also the first institution in the country to become a member of the Global Alliance for Clean Coookstoves.
As member of the alliance, BPSU becomes an implementing partner in realizing the vision to provide and distribute 100 million clean cookstoves for biomass dependent households worldwide by the year 2020.
According to a World Health Organization report, about 2.5 billion people in more than 500 million homes worldwide use dirty and inefficient cookstoves.
