BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Forty five students of Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) and 20 students from the Yonsei University, South Korea recently participated in a cultural exchange program here. Participating students engaged in activities aiming to connect the Filipino culture with the Korean culture.
Aimed at sharing cultural knowledge, both foreign and local participants were introduced to different cultural icons of the two countries and discussed their significance to the life and identity of the people.
Exchange students were made familiar with the cultural identities of the two counties like for food: kimchi and kare-kare; leisure: jimjibang and karaoke; transportation: subway train and jeepney; clothing: hanbok and bahag; and places: Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Samat.
“The activity highlighted the uniqueness of each participating country as well as helped the participants recognize their similarities”, said BPSU-OIC for International Affairs, Associate Professor Rowell De Guia. “The cultural exchange program’s theme, “Linking into Learning”, is a double-edged approach of BPSU in creating relevant learning experiences for university students”, he added.
“The students actively contributed during the discussion on topics such as cross-cultural understanding and the benefits of building multicultural communities”, De Guia also said.
The Korean students were accompanied in the country by Dr. Sang Han, Associate Dean of the College of Government and Business of Yonsei University.
BPSU officials see the start of academic partnership between the two universities in order to strengthen the potential to offer quality education at par with international standards.
