DENR Bataan crafts Provincial Foreshore Development and Management Plan

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The DENR Bataan through the leadership of Penro Raul Mamac has crafted Foreshore Development and Management Plan for the province for the foreshore areas best use as ecologically viable without neglecting any sector of the society.
“The major contents of the plan will be composed of the profile of the provincial foreshore area, opportunities and constraints to foreshore utilization, managing the foreshore area of the province, among others”, said UP expert and consultant Dr. Digna Magnaye during the presentation of the plan at the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan here on Monday.
“We identify foreshore lands in the province which are best suitable for recreation, commercial, beach parks, protection zones, and reserve areas”, she also said.
Some members of the provincial board raised common issues in foreshore management that included conflicts and institutional overlap, weak enforcement of laws, pollution, illegal conversion, and informal settlement.
“The success of the foreshore management plan depends on the full and active participation the community and concerned sectors”, Magnaye added.
Responding to the concern on “inclusive growth” of Vice Governor Cris Garcia, DENR Bataan Management Officer Edgardo Angeles pointed out that industrial activities will not displace fisherfolks in foreshore areas where fishing is a major economic activity.
“It is taken in the provincial foreshore plan not to displace any sector of the society”, he explained to the body.
DENR Bataan Supervising Ecosystems Management Specialist Nanette Suguitan and Manila Bay Rehabilitation Focal Person Mila Ramirez also joined in the presentation to the SP.
Earlier, Mamac vowed to support all the way the environmental thrust of Gov. Abet Garcia.
