Effective parenting is the key

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Government of Bataan, thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) is guided by this verse from the bible, Proverbs 22:6 when it comes to child rearing.

Last Friday, October 20, the PSWDO conducted an effective parenting seminar attended by more than 600 Barangay Health Workers and members of women’s group KABALIKAT at the Bataan People’s Center, Capitol Compound, this City.

In her comprehensive and inspiring talk, Mrs. Marilyn C. Tigas, head of the PSWDO shared valuable tips to the attendees on child rearing practices.

She expounded that effective parenting is the key to producing God-fearing, responsible, participative and productive citizens, which plays a vital role in the attainment of the province’s goal, the highest Human Development Index (HDI) in the country.

Tigas also discussed the Children’s Rights as embodied in the United Nations charter, which the Philippines is a signatory. She emphasized to the audience that it is the obligation of parents/guardians to see to it that these rights are provided to every child and failure to do so could be a ground for parents to be held accountable for.

Another interesting and valuable insight shared by Mrs,. Tigas is the ABC of parenting which is one of the best practices of PSWDO-Bataan.
