First onion plantation in Bataan

With the support of Department of Agriculture Region 3 and Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), the graduates from the Farmers’ Field School (FFS) on onion production harvested its first yield in an almost 2 hectares pilot plantation located in Sitio Nyugan, Cupang Proper, Balanga City last February 16.

To further promote crop diversification and with Central Luzon as the country’s top onion producer, the Department of Agriculture perceived Bataan as a potential grower of onion as its market demand increases.

Started last March of 2019, 54 farmers from Balanga City finished FFS which included technology demonstration. The DA Region 3 and OPA provided assistance from raw materials to market integration of the harvests to ensure and persuade local farmers that Bataan can take off as onion grower.
