Garcia distributes stipends to CHED scholars

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Bataan Governor Albert S. Garcia, this afternoon led the distribution of stipends to 60 students from different universities and colleges in Bataan and Metro Manila.

Ramon Garcia, chief coordinator for scholars, said the stipends are from the Commission on Higher Education Special Study Grant Program for Congressional Districts for the Second Semester Academic Year 2014-2015, in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Bataan.

Three thousand pesos worth of check from CHED was awarded to each student under the program. The students were from the Bataan Peninsula State University, University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, Tomas Del Rosario College, Eastwoods College, and Microcity College.

CHED has three programs under the Student Financial Assistance Program or STUFAP namely the Scholarship, the Grants-in-Aid (GIA) and the Study Now Pay Later Plan (SNPLP) programs.

The Scholarship programs include the Full Merit and the Half Merit. The Full Merit is intended for graduating high school students whose general weighted average is at least 90% in the third year and at least 90% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year. Scholars under this program may enroll either in public or private HEIs.

The Half Merit is intended for graduating high school students whose general weighted average is at least 85% in the third year and at least 85% in the first three grading periods of the fourth year. Scholars under this program may enroll in degree programs in private HEIs. These scholarship programs may be availed also by qualified persons with disabilities (PWD), solo parents and their dependents, members of the cultural minority, members of the hill tribe, and senior citizens.

Several students expressed their short messages of gratitude to Governor Garcia and Second District Congressman Enrique “Tet” Garcia, Jr. for their continuous support to the students of the province.
