Hermosa SB adopts own Fishery Code


HERMOSA, Bataan – The municipal government of Hermosa through its Sangguniang Bayan (municipal council) has adopted its own Fishery Code taking into consideration the pertinent provisions of RA 8550 otherwise known as “The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.”
The ordinance entitled “An Ordinance Establishing The Management, Conservation, Utilization, And Protection Of The Coastal And Marine Resources Of The Municipality Of Hermosa, Bataan And Imposing Charges, Fees And Other Penalties For The Violation Thereof,” was introduced by Councilor Paquito Datu, chair of SB Committee on Land Use and Environmental Protection.
Some of the salient provisions of the Code: Prohibited acts and penalties: use of active gear, use of explosives or poisonous substances and electricity in fishing, use of dynamites, use of fishing method destructive to coral reef and other marine habitat. Fine for violation of those prohibited acts is P2,500 or two to six months imprisonment.
Conversion of mangroves into fish ponds or for any other purposes, use of unofficial or un-prescribed color coding of fishing boats are also penalized with P2,500 fine or imprisonment of two to years.
