Imee wants gov’t to uplift agri sector

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos wishes that the country’s agricultural sector be given priority by the government to catch up with other more developed nations.
Ms. Marcos was the guest during the two-day “Goat Festival” held Wednesday until Thursday at the Bataan provincial capitol compound. Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), the goat festival was held to promote and propagate goat meat and milk.
She said the country’s agricultural sector needs to be revitalized and bring back the enthusiasm and energy of farmers more particularly those engaged in goat raising.
“Panahon na para bigyan ng prayoridad ang ating agrikultura. This is the age of agriculture, of aquaculture, we have to catch up with the times and with other more developed nations,” Marcos said.
The Ilocos Norte governor who is also one of the aspirants for senator reminisced the various projects undertaken by her father then President Ferdinand Marcos in Bataan province. Such projects, she said, were the Bataan Export Processing Zone (now Freeport Area of Bataan), the Roman Superhighway, and the Mt. Samat Shrines.
“Malapit sa amin ang Bataan. Napaka importante sa amin ang lalawigang ito,” said Imee. She also remembers that it was in this province where she put up and organized the Kabataang Barangay.
