ORANI, Bataan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has projected to complete the widening of Roman Expressway worth P 2.2 billion in year 2020.
Engineer Erlindo R. Flores, Jr. officer-in-charge of Bataan DPWH 1st Engineering District, told local reporters in a press conference held in his office recently, that the improvement of the province’s premier road network would enhance the capacity of the expressway to accommodate the growing volume of cargo trucks, petroleum tankers, private and public vehicles that pass through the 70 kilometer stretch of Roman Expressway.
He explained the construction of alternative road is not practical anymore with the high-cost of land acquisition from private owners, right of way and other problems like on topographical issues if the government would pursue building a new highway.
According to Engineer Flores, Bataan Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia and Representative Geraldine Roman of the 1st Congressional District, have predicted the large-scale infrastructure programs of the national government would further boost economic growth in the historic peninsula.
He said the province is one of the economic hotspots for investments in Central Luzon, with President Duterte’s decentralization economic program it would encourage local and foreign locators to put up manufacturing plants in the province’s industrial growth centers.
