Information, now in the palm of your hand

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – People can’t argue with the fact that most of the today’s population possess mobile phones (esp. smart phones) and that they kill most of their time using it. So when information is shared through those devices, a big percentage of it will surely get through the user.

With the matter at hand, the Provincial Government of Bataan through the Management Information Systems Office/Provincial Information Office now ventures in this new project called the Text Messaging Alert System (TMAS) which is a complete, standalone Global Systems Mobile (GSM) Communication technology that enables devices with International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) and International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) to receive messages provided that they are within the radius of two to five (2-5) kilometers around the unit without incurring operating costs.

This device is currently used by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and it is believed that the TMAS will greatly improve information dissemination among the residents of Bataan especially in far flung areas with no TV/radio/phone signals for emergency broadcasts, important announcements, and even daily traffic information.

Not only that but also through the TMAS, 1Bataan may also broadcast the latest news announcements, cancellation/suspension of classes and office work, weather forecast updates, special events, employment opportunities and more.

Training is now being conducted among the MBDA and MIS/PIO personnel in preparation for the actual use of the device.
