BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Way back 2005, the Provincial Government of Bataan thru the Iskolar ng Bataan program started giving financial assistance in the amount of only P2,500.00 per student per semester. As time went by, it increased to P4,000.00 and then to P5,000.00 per student per semester in the 10 towns of Bataan, from P5,000.00 to P6,000.00 in Morong, and from P6,000.00 to P7,000.00 in the city of Balanga.

Mr. Ramon Cañas, a member of the Iskolar ng Bataan Committee, said that this increase is due to the increase in tuition fees of students and other factors like today’s high cost of living, cost of books, uniforms and other school supplies.

Mr. Cañas, added that this grant increase was made possible,  through a resolution submitted by the Iskolar ng Bataan Committee and approved by Governor Garcia, hence the Iskolar ng Bataan Committee led by its Vice Chairman and now Vice Governor of Bataan, Ms. Cris Garcia, was able to implement it.

To date, the program has approximately 12,000 beneficiaries including the beneficiaries of Gurong Iskolar program, PUP scholars, and Aeta scholars.

Other committee members of the Iskolar ng Bataan program are Mr. Delfin Magpantay, Mr. Ramon Garcia and Mr. Ramon Cañas.
