LIMAY, Bataan – January 1, 2017 marked the start of the official celebration on the 100 years foundation of this town with its launching program at Judy’s Park in Brgy. Poblacion with Orion town Mayor Tonypep Raymundo gracing the occasion.
History tells that Limay was just a former barangay of Orion, and that only after Executive Order no. 93 of then American Governor General Burton Harris on Jan. 1, 1917 that Limay became the 12th and last town of Bataan.
Mayor Tonypep Raymundo even joked that, how he wished that Orion will now just be a barangay of Limay, but for sure, he should be the barangay captain.
Mayor Ver, in his message, thanked all the previous leaders of the town who all gave their best and contributed to the progress that Limay is now enjoying.
Some of the highlights of the celebration were the boodle fight dinner of the officials with the constituents of Limay, the AVP (audio visual presentation), presenting the short history of Limay then and now and the exciting fireworks display.
Another highlight was the inauguration of the new “state of the art” Limay Municipal Hall featuring a “double escalator”, making it the only municipality in the province or even in Region 3 with an all glass wall and an escalator.
The coffee table book titled, “Limay at 100 years: A Centennial Celebration,” was also launched, which according to Mayor Ver will capture and feature all the fascinating and memorable activities that will transpire in the year-long celebration.
