Mariveles mayor, SB members are non-smokers

MARIVELES, Bataan – Mariveles boasts of having a mayor and all Sangguniang Bayan members who are all non-smokers, making them very credible to lead a smoke-free municipality.

“I am proud to announce that all of us members of the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Lito Rubia do not smoke”, said Councilor  Susan Murillo who is the  SB Chairman of the Committee on Family, Women, and Children during the launching of Tobacco-Free Generation here on Tuesday.

“Yes, all of us in the Sangguniang Bayan are non-smokers”, echoed Councilor Tito Catipon. “And also our Mayor AJ Concepcion does not smoke”.

Concepion and other local and health officials with selected junior and senior high schools from both public and private on Tuesday held a motorcade in the morning starting from Barangay Batangas Dos to the town proper that culminated in a program at the People’s Park, Barangay Poblacion.

The launching of the Tobacco-Free Generation in this town was highlighted by high school students taking oath not to puff cigarette in their lifetime.

Students also symbolically destroyed a huge replica of cigarette pack and stick.

In his message, Concepcion urged folks and students to support their no-smoking program. “Let us make all of our programs work. We are now seeing the fruits of our vision, our town is truly in the path to progress”, the mayor said.

The mayor also delivered his concise State of the Municipality Address during the program.

Catipon said through the leadership tandem of Concepcion and Rubia, they are serious to implement the Tobacco-Free Generation program.

Rubia, in all available occasions, constantly urges local folks to support all the programs of the local government of Mariveles.

For his part, Councilor and SB Chairman of the Committee on Health Angel Sunga asked the youths to influence their peers in healthy living and not to try smoking.

“We want this program to succeed for the next generations to come”, he messaged during the program.

Murillo ended, “We are hoping there will come a time in our town that we will see no more cigarette butts thrown in our streets”.

Councilors Joey Carandang, Harry Golocan, and Em Reyes also joined the launching activity.
