BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The controversial Mariveles District Hospital (MDH) in Mariveles is now complete with 80 employees, 40 of them belong to the medical staff, according to Dr. Hector Santos, Director of Orani District Hospital, who doubles for the meantime, as Director of MDH.
Santos on Tuesday said that opening a district hospital should never be likened to opening a “sari-sari” (variety) store where you immediately sell your merchandise at once.
According to Santos, the MDH has to comply with numerous requirements required by the Department of Health. “But we can admit all emergency cases at this time and patients can be confined there up to eight hours only,” he explained.
He said the MDH had been operating since September 24 last year and hospital equipment are already available. “In fact, we receive more or less 120 patients a day including women who gave birth in the hospital. Ako pa ang nag asikaso sa unang pasyente,” the doctor proudly relates to the media.
Mariveles folks need not go to Balanga for medical needs because the MDH is already capable of treating basic emergency cases.
A barrage of criticisms from local residents was noted when the MDH failed to operate on time following stringent rules and regulations by the DOH on district hospitals.
