Mayor AJ Concepcion Chess Cup held

MARIVELES, Bataan – The Mayor AJ Concepcion Chess Cup was successfully held in this town in celebration of Apo Kulas 712th Feast.

“Mayor AJ Concepcion, Vice Mayor Lito Rubia, and SB members back sports development like chess in Mariveles”, said SB Member Angel Sunga, Chairman of the Committee on Sports in his message before the start of the tournament.

“It is better for our youth to be engaged in sports instead of vices like illegal drugs”, the councilor stressed.

“Chess players here are lucky there is the Mariveles Chess Club that organizes chess tournaments”, he also said.

More than 40 chess players not only from this town but also from other towns of the province participated in the one-day open and kiddie divisions tournament. National Master Rudy Ibanez was the tournament arbiter.

As announced by tournament organizer Mariveles Chess Club President Louie Ramos, the cash prizes and trophies were distributed to the winners right after the tournament held at Heroes Hall, Barangay Poblacion.

Aside from awards for top finishers, many special prizes were also distributed to the delight of participating chess players.

The municipality of Mariveles sponsored the chess tournament. Chess players in the province lauded this town’s officials for supporting chess development at the grassroots level.
