PILAR, Bataan – The preparation for a strategic master plan to refurbish the island fortress of Corregidor, a few nautical miles from the Bataan peninsula, into a flagship program is a welcome development geared toward the creation of a more extensive market for historical and cultural scheme to boost the eco-tourism industry.
Pilar Mayor Alice D. Pizarro has observed the crucial and constructive positive consequences of the latest objective of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) under the Department of Tourism (DOT) to undertake the essential and paramount rehabilitation works in the world renowned island stronghold of the elite Filipino-American forces during the last World War II.
She stressed the marvelous promotional impact of the highly esteemed historical sites to the eco-tourism campaign of the country, the Corregidor Island naval fortress located at the entrance of Manila Bay between Bataan and Cavite provinces and Mount Samat National Shrine in the upland village of Liyang, this town.
The tad pole Corregidor Island, a great military bastion, was once a small fishing village which was converted by American government into a military fortification and later on became a recognized location of one of the most gallant battle scenes in the history of World War 11.
The lady municipal executive, a tourism graduate of the University of the Philippines, explained the proposed glorious tourism development program which is interconnecting two sacred grounds of Corregidor Island and Mount Samat Shrine of Valor, would hasten further the tourism industry through accessible routes and wider systematic arrangements.
She said the government promotion of two great historical landmarks is an eternal gratitude to the sacrifices of our forefathers specially the World War 11 veterans who valiantly stood and died to defend our democratic ideals.
