BALANGA CITY , Bataan – The National Food Authority (NFA) Bataan Provincial Office opened a temporary port operations office in Mariveles to facilitate receipt of 100,000 bags of rice from NFA-Region VI, for allocation to the different provinces of Central Luzon including Bataan.
Said operations commenced last May 9 with the arrival of the first vessel, Merchant Vessel (MV) Samantha Alec at Seafront Shipyard and Port Terminal Services, Inc. in Lucanin, Mariveles, Bataan. The vessel carried the first 40,000 bags of rice from NFA-Bacolod, followed by MV Nicole Ingrid (May 20), also from Bacolod, carrying 20,000 bags of rice and MV Zachary (June 5) loaded with 28,738 bags of rice which originated from NFA- Iloilo.
Unloaded stocks were directly transferred to the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija and of course, Bataan. Rice stocks allocated for the province of Aurora will be temporarily stored in NFA-Nueva Ecija warehouses due to the difficulty in reaching the province via trailer trucks.
As of this time, NFA-Bataan is still awaiting the arrival of the fourth vessel, also from Iloilo, to complete the 100,000 bags allocation of NFA Region III provinces. These stocks aim to augment the inventories in the Central Luzon provinces pending the arrival of imported stocks.
NFA Central Luzon Regional Director Marciano Alvarez congratulated NFA- Bataan personnel, headed by Provincial Manager Adelaida C. Nuestro, for a record in unloading operations without shortage.
