NFA to start distribution of imported rice next week

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The National Food Authority (NFA) is scheduled to distribute  imported rice from Vietnam  next week to some 100 registered retailers in the provinces’ public markets.

Mrs. Adelaida Nuestro, NFA provincial manager, explained that the Agency has allocated 10 cavans per rice retailer out of the 5,000 bags of newly-arrived imported rice unloaded from cargo vessel in the port facilities at Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in Olongapo City.

Mrs. Nuestro said the province is expected to receive 12,000 bags to augment the diminishing supply of NFA rice in the distribution outlets up to the third quarter of the year.

The NFA rice price ceiling of P 27 per kilo is almost half-of the price of P42 per kilo of the lowest commercial rice in the market.

About 48,000 bags of rice equivalent to 2.4 million kilos would be distributed this year for buffer stock, relief goods and retail purposes.

Some 24,000 bags will be initially delivered until August while the remaining stock will be completed before the year end.
