BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Governor Abet Garcia, at the launching of Resilient 1Bataan Initiative, the first province to ink partnership among stakeholders, particularly the private sector, said that the Philippines is one of the top countries in the world at risk of climate change related disasters with population subsisting at the poverty line wherein daily lives and well-being are routinely challenged.
According to the governor, Bataan takes disaster resiliency programs and services seriously and has doubled significant resources to build disaster capability and reduce population exposure vulnerability hence, the very early first stakeholders meeting for such initiative.
Governor Abet Garcia believes that though the government is capacitating a checklist of actions to be taken, supplies to be procured and providing all the needed communications and information during disasters, he stressed the need for the NGOs to contribute more in improving disaster preparedness and contingency plans.
He likewise said that the NGOs can play an integral part during response efforts which can result to saving more lives, that NGOs like religious sectors, private groups, academe and business sectors can coordinate and function well, to promote disaster risks reduction in our level.
During the launching, preliminary scorecards were presented by the different pillar champions such as: on Resilience Development by Dr. Hector Santos; Sustainable Economy by Ms. Zena Sugatain; Planning and Resilient Infrastructure by Engr. Alexander Baluyot and Environmental Sustainability by Engr. Vic Ubaldo (POG-Enro), after which, the forging/signing of partnership followed, generating solutions and action planning among stakeholders.
