OWD to celebrate anniversary with run for a cause on Feb 25

ORANI, Bataan – The Orani Water District (OWD) will celebrate its anniversary with a run for a cause on February 25 dubbed “17th Orani Water Dragon Run for the Watershed 6”.

The water district will stage 10 kilometers, 5 kilometers, and 3 kilometers run, to start at 6am in front of OWD office.  Registration for the run is scheduled from January 23 to February 17, 2017. “Anytime they can register for the run in our office. We always have a staff ready to accommodate them at the front desk”, said OWD General Manager Benny Andres. However, registration is on a “first come first served basis” due to the limited number of T-shirts.

The fund to be raised will be for the OWD’s reforestation project in the upland Tala watershed area.

Andres said they have been doing the run for the last 17 years in celebration of their anniversary although the planting of trees in the watershed area was just six years ago. He said they already planted 50,000 tibig trees for the past five years, and will plant another 10,000 this coming August. 

He said that their reforestation effort at the Tala watershed area aims to preserve the aquifers under it, the source of potable water they distribute to businesses and households in Orani and nearby areas.
