P 21 M ice plant and cold storage facility to rise in Bataan

MARIVELES, Bataan – Board Member Jose C. Villapando, Sr., Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP)  chair of Cooperative Development and Transportation Committees has bared  the proposed construction of P21 million ice plant and cold storage facility in the upland village of Batangas Dos, this town.

Villapando said, Kaizen (Japanese term for continuous improvement) Multi-Purpose Cooperatives of Batangas Dos, is eyeing the 1,200 square meter land near the barangay public market as the probable site of the project.

The ice plant project, the first of its kind to be put up in the province through cooperative endeavors would supply commercial cube ice to food shops, restaurants, industrial facilities, households and other entities in Southern Bataan towns, Villapando said.

The new ice plant strategically located in the periphery of the country’s first export processing zone now Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB), petrochemical  and industrial zone in Barangay Lamao, Limay town  would further boost the demand for quality cube ice and storage facility, Villapando explained on the noteworthy  economic impact on the small and medium entrepreneurs of the new ice plant.

The joint project of the Philippine Rural Development Program under the auspices of World Bank which provides P 17 million loan while the local multi-purpose cooperative contribution is estimated at P 4 million.

Villapando mentioned the unequaled achievements of Bataan Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia in pursuing feasible economic development strategic programs have fascinated foreign and local investments to the historic peninsula.

He added that Governor Garcia recognizes the significant share of cooperatives as effective instrument for social and economic growth since it plays the most important  task in mounting  local market  and harnessing a self-reliant community and citizenry, craftsmanship, expertise and excellence of their products and services.
