PG-ENRO bids for a joint solid waste project worth P500 million in Bataan

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A top official of the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) is proposing for a joint-project for the establishment of a P 500 million worth of sophisticated –high tech sanitary landfill  with bio-gas facility in the upland village of Capitangan, Abucay town, this province.

Engineer Victor Ubaldo, Provincial Government – ENRO head, has revealed that a Manila-based Basic Environmental System and Technologies Incorporated (BEST) which specializes on designing, construction and operation of sanitary waste landfill is already undertaking detailed study since the original proponent status awarded  September last year.

The said firm has constructed several waste disposal projects in Rizal province, Visayas and Mindanao while the bio- gas facility proponent identified as Bataan Poultry Owners Association headed by Eric Hermoso has discussed the project with Bataan Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia on the plan to establish a German-technology concept of biodegrable energy project near the provincial garbage dumping area.

Engineer Ubaldo explained the proposed joint solid waste management project of the two private groups under Public-Private Partnership for the People and Investment opportunities in Bataan would ensure efficient garbage disposal practices and modern application of systematic techniques of converting poultry waste into renewable energy with the capacity of producing one megawatt electricity.

The sanitary landfill advocate is presently negotiating for the acquisition of 40 hectares from owners of the project site, and readying the location plan for the fundamental and mechanical structures, topographic study, environmental analysis, and waste treatment facility for the protection of groundwater.

The proponent is reportedly closely evaluating the effective procedures and to determine the critical impact to ecosystem and to the general welfare of the communities located in the periphery of the dumping site.

The sanitary landfill project is expected to accommodate 350 metric tons daily of solid waste from the Bataan households populace.

He said the provincial government is shouldering the concreting of the seven (7) kilometer road leading to the proposed sanitary landfill project from the Roman Expressway
