ORANI, Bataan – Local government officials led Bataan Governor Abet S. Garcia and top officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) recently breaks ground for the construction of the country’s most modern detention facility – the New Bataan District Jail.

The groundbreaking and capsule laying rites were done inside a three-hectare parcel of land inside the 1Bataan Command Center compound where the Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA) office in Barangay Doña of this first-class town is located.

The project will be constructed under the public private partnership between the Bataan Provincial Government, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and MTD Alloy Philippines Inc.

Governor Garcia said the facility has the capacity of 5,000 inmates and will be having a factory building among other structures to be built within the project site.

“The factory building will be the major source of livelihood of the inmates here where they will be trained by TESDA and employed by locators from the Freeport Area of Bataan as their need for workers rise due to the influx of investors coming to our province,” Garcia said.

“Akala ko mall itong itatayo. Sa ganda ng facility na ito kinakabahan ako baka lalong dumami ang inmates na aalagaan namin dito,” (I thought they were building a mall. With this modern facility, I fear the number of inmates might increase.)

BJMP chief, Jail Chief Supt. Deogracias Tapayan quips during his brief speech.

A memorandum of agreement was signed between Governor Albert Raymond Garcia representing Bataan LGU, Engr. Isaac David of MTD Alloy Philippines, Inc., Chief Supt. Deogracias Tapayan of BJMP and Orani Municipal Mayor Efren Pascual Jr. and Bataan Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia.
