ABUCAY, Bataan A priest is vigorously promoting bird conservation in the province of Bataan. Rev. Fr. Auckhs Enjaynes, Vice President for administration of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Bataan, spearheaded the holding of the seminar, “Birding in Letran Bataan” and a bird photo exhibit at the Letran campus in this town.

Letran Bataan conducted week-long activities for its College Week celebration that culminated on the school’s Foundation Day on February 2. “The twin activities highlighted the importance of birds as indicators in caring for the environment”, the priest pointed out.

Enjaynes, an active member of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP), had also held in the past, a photo exhibit at the Total Gas Station along North Luzon Expressway in San Simon, Pampanga of forest birds he photographed inside the Letran campus.

He recently joined the water bird census in the City of Balanga, and was assigned in the team that counted migratory birds in the swamplands of Barangay Tortugas. The WBCP, for this year’s count, has recorded 12,599 migratory birds belonging to 38 species in the City’s coastal areas and swamps.
