PSA Bataan Conducts 2016 OWS and 2015/2016 ISLE

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The Philippine Statistics Authority Bataan Provincial Statistical Office is currently conducting the 2016 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS) and 2015/ 2016 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment (ISLE) through distribution of survey forms to sample establishments in the province from August to October 2016.

The data to be generated from ISLE will be used as inputs to studies on industry trends and practices, and will serve also as bases for the formulation of labor policies. The OWS, on the other hand, aims to generate statistics for wage and salary administration and for wage determination in collective bargaining negotiations. Specifically, occupational wage rates can be used to measure discrepancy of wages across industries, wage inequality in various types of occupations, and for international comparability.

In OWS, the survey inquires on 1) general information of the establishment, 2) employment and wage rates of full time-rated workers on full time basis and 3) employment and wage rates of full time-rated workers on full time basis in selected occupation.

Enumeration for the survey involves distribution of survey questionnaires by personal delivery to sample establishments and collection. Collection of survey questionnaires is undertaken by personal visit of PSA staff and hired statistical researchers.

PSA staff underwent 2016 OWS and 2016 ISLE third level training from August 9-10, 2016 in preparation to the field operation. The 2016 OWS and 2016 ISLE distribution of questionnaires started on August 15, 2016 simultaneous with the collection from thereon.

The conduct of these surveys is mandated by Republic Act 10625, the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 which authorizes PSA to collect data on all aspects of socioeconomic life including industry for the use of the government and the public.
