BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) is inviting the public to join the Bataan Freedom Trail 2018 on March 24.
PVB is holding the activity in partnership with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Without Limits, and the Provincial Government of Bataan in line with the 76th Araw ng Kagitingan.
“The event aims to uphold the legacy of camaraderie, bravery, and sacrifice made by Filipino and American freedom fighters 76 years ago,” PVB said in a statement.
Bataan Freedom Trail has three categories namely 160-kilometer competitive team race, non-competitive cycling for bikers, and a torch-passing relay for youth groups.
The event will traverse the actual Bataan Death March route from Mariveles town to Capas, Tarlac.
“We want to recognize the importance of the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Units in this event for their efforts and services during the war. It shall be a rallying point for ROTC cadet officers, National Service Training Program students, ROTC alumni members, and army reservist,” PVB furthered.
Meanwhile, PVB and partners will also be holding the 5th Bataan Freedom Run on April 7 in Balanga City.
It features a 42-kilometer and 21-kilometer competitive race in various categories such as solo, team, military, and with 10 or 20 pounds of rucksack.
For the youth, a colorful night run will also be conducted in a 10-kilometer or 5-kilometer non-competitive race.
Kids and their pets are also invited to join its one-kilometer run.
Registration for both events is now on-going at Chris Sports SM North EDSA Annex, SM Megamall, SM City Pampanga, Balanga Capitol and Bataan Tourism Office. Participants for the Freedom Run will receive a singlet and race bib upon registration. Interested participants may also register online at https://regonline.activeglobal.com/bataanfreedomrun2018.
All winners and finishers for the Freedom Run will receive medals guaranteed by the organizers.
Proceeds of the two events will be used to upkeep and restore World War II historical markers along the Bataan Death March route.
