Restoration of Bataan historical markers sought

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – In connection with the upcoming commemoration of the 75th Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9 this year, concerned individuals are currently in the planning stage to restore some of the “neglected” historical markers in the province.

Last year a concerned group held a Bataan Freedom Run tracing the historic Bataan Death March route. The proceeds of the run were intended to fund the restoration of the World War II historical markers here.

In an exclusive interview with 1Bataan.com, this reporter gathered from some employees at the Provincial Governor’s Office that Gov. Abet has already directed them to come up with programs and perform tasks focused on cultural development and arts promotion including the historical aspect of our province. To date, they are are still in the inventory stage of our historical markers, sites without markers, monuments and cultural institutions like museums, galleries and libraries in our province. A strategic project for these markers will likewise be put into place.

Private individuals and businesses who are interested and willing to help in the said project are very much welcome to partake in this noble endeavor.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) is the government agency in charge of the promotion of Philippine history and cultural heritage through research, dissemination, and conservation. The project aims to help the said agency preserve the historical and cultural legacy of these places and sites for the future generations.
