BALANGA CITY, Bataan – For the fourth time, the Municipality of Samal clinched the title for Best Float in the Parada ng Kagitingan 2018 on Friday, having defended their last year’s win.
Instead of their trademark design studded with capiz, they used boards formed as stone walls depicting Filipino soldiers’ fortress.
Samal’s float portrayed the first encounter in the land of Bataan that killed soldiers who handled USAFFE cannons. It was in honor to Philippine Scouts Sgt. Jose Calugas’ courage to stop the intrusion of a Japanese tank and 60 other trucks that contain military supplies through holding the gun all by himself.
Japanese troops were blocked by Filipino-American forces at Brgy. Layac, Dinalupihan where the famous tableau statue of battle is situated, and which became the inspiration of their matte brown static appearance.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Dinalupihan was bestowed the second place with their giant army shoes which symbolize the historic Bataan Death March.
Morong Town got the third place with their futuristic theme portraying Bataan’s Vision by the year 2020.
