BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The proliferation of backyard fishpond hatchery for tilapia fingerlings has become popular since 1980s. With this goes the more improved quality of commercial tilapia in the local market as well as in other parts of Central Luzon.
The woman or one of the people behind this is Ms. Agnes Gurbuxani, the aquaculturist and one of the key employees of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Bataan.
Ms. Gurbuxani has been with the OPA serving as trainor for local fishermen to produce more marine products while at the same time improving their quality for export and commercial purposes.
In Barangay Pantingan, Pilar, she trained fishermen to produce high quality tilapia fingerlings in a four-hectare hatchery.
