BALANGA CITY, Bataan – One of this year’s Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) awardees sees Balanga City as an emerging center for technology in the country.
TOSP awardee Kevin Facun lauded Balanga City Mayor Francis S Garcia, an IT expert, for promoting innovation and recognizing technology in molding an inclusive and progressive future for his constituents.
“It won’t be a surprise if in the coming years, Balanga City will be the center for technology for the Filipino people,” Facun said at the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga City during the Independence Day Celebration.
Facun stressed the potential of technology to uplift one’s standard of living. He also reiterated the significance of independence and the role of Filipino people in fighting for freedom. “It is not enough to enrich ourselves. Instead, we also need to realize our role in the society to help our fellow citizens who are experiencing cruelty, poverty and discrimination,” he furthered.
Facun was hailed as the grand champion of the recent Philippine Startup Challenge, a national competition which exposes college students to use technological interventions to solve real-world problems.
Last April 23, Facun was recognized as one of the TOSP awardees held at the Malacañang Palace.
