UP experts impressed with the BPSU CHED DARE TO mango project

SAMAL, Bataan – Renowned mango experts in the country are impressed  with the  science and technology community-based mango farming project being implemented here by the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) with  funding from CHED.

“We have been to Zambales, Pangasinan, and Bulacan but it is only here in Bataan that we saw productive mango farms this season”, said Dr. Elda B. Esguerra, Director of Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Center, College of Agriculture and Food Science UP Los Banos during the conduct of Farmers’ Field Day and Harvest Festival on Mango held at Mr. Raul Dela Rosa’s farm in Barangay Gugo, Samal recently.

“You have good yield here and also in other mango farms in Bataan participating in the project”, she added.

Esguerra and Engr. Emmanuel Amatorio also of the College of Agriculture and Food Science UP Los Banos discussed to farmers mango postharvest techniques and demonstrated hot water treatment in the event.

Dr. Esguerra told   BPSU Research Development Director and Project Leader Dr. Hermogenes Paguia she will include mango farms here in Bataan in a project funded by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Twenty four (24) farms (2 in each of the 11 towns and 1 city) in  the province and 10 farms in Palauig, Zambales are  participating in the project,  “Sustainable Mango Production through Science and Technology Innovations and Support Mechanisms for Capacity Development in Central Luzon” funded by CHED under its Discovery-Applied Research and Extension for Trans/Inter-disciplinary Opportunities (DARE TO) Research Grant.
