Who’s Who in Bataan – ALEGRIA SAMANIEGO FLORA

ALEGRIA SAMANIEGO FLORA is a teacher by profession who became one of the most prolific writers in the country. She has written more than 100 textbooks, workbooks and teacher’s manuals in Mathemathics, Sciences, English, Filipino, HEKASI and Good Manners and Right Conduct. She has also written articles in educational magazines and periodicals.

Dr. Flora is the daughter of Carmen Vivar Vda. De Samaniego and Vicente Samaniego Sr. She was born in Pilar, Bataan on March 4, 1938 at the time when her father was serving as the municipal treasurer of the town. An alumnus of Hermosa Elementary School (1950) and Jose Rizal Institute-Orani (1954), she completed her Education course and graduated magna cum laude at the Philippine Normal University (PNU) in 1960. She also completed her Master’s degree at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and her Doctorate degree at the PNU.

She was a regular elementary school teacher for 35 years before she became a principal at PNU. Later on, she became the department head and Assistant to the Dean at the College of Education, PNU.

Alegria Flora still regularly contributes articles to the Philippine Journal of Education and constructs test items for the Department of Education and Quiz Bee contests. In 2004, she was chosen as one of the “Namumukod-tanging Anak ng Hermosa.”

            Dr. Flora is married to Santiago Flora and has three children: Joel (29),Arnold (27) and Rbiza (23).
