CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) headed by Dr. Rosanna Buccahan will be highlighting today’s celebration of the World No Tobacco Day through a motorcade, a zumba exercise and a human formation of a “no smoking sign” at the Capitol compound, this province.
Dr. Buccahan said that the celebration of this important event is to make known their advocacy on the harmful effects of smoking, the added health risks associated with tobacco and the sincere commitment of the government in protecting the public from carcinogenic second hand smoke.
The theme for today’s event is “Tobacco – a threat to development”. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and its negative effects which is currently causing millions of people’s death including non-smokers being exposed to second -hand smoke.
Meanwhile, during the session yesterday, newly installed Vice Governor Cris Garcia and Board Member Peping Villapando encouraged all board members to take part in today’s event to express support in the advocacy, protect health, reduce poverty and promote development.
It will be remembered that Balanga City, with then City Mayor Joet Garcia now Congressman of 2nd district, had been awarded the “RED Orchid Award” for his strong tobacco control advocacy.
