Bataan Governor to allot P25-M for hospital

CLARK FREEPORT– Bataan Governor Albert Garcia disclosed on Wednesday that the provincial government is allocating at least P25 million next year for the operations of the Bataan General Hospital (BGH) in Balanga City.

Garcia, who was interviewed at the Holiday Inn Clark during the Central Luzon Stakeholders Meeting attended by governors and mayors from October 9 to 10, said the allotment of funds is part of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Health (DOH) signed earlier this year. The BGH is the frequent refuge of the poor residents of Bataan.

Modernization sweeping Bataan prov’l hospital

Bataan General Hospital (BGH) was recently hailed as a model of partnership between the Department of Health and the provincial government of Bataan, under Gov. Enrique “Tet” Garcia and his son, Rep. Abet Garcia.

In a press statement, the Bataan provincial government said BGH was now second to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila in access by indigent patients to cataract treatment that is under the PhilHealth’s universal coverage program.

The improved BGH impressed Dr. Eduardo Banzon, former PhilHealth president and chief executive officer, during a recent visit to the provincial government hospital.

Bataan government allots P25 million for 350-bed hospital

Garcia said the province is committed in the same MOA to shoulder 25 percent of the expenses of the 350-bed BGH for 2014.

Bataan officials intensify drive vs Chikungunya in Mariveles

MARIVELES, Bataan— Health officials in the province have joined forces to check the Chikungunya outbreak in Mariveles that has already affected more than a hundred people.

Chikungunya is a viral disease that is spread by Aegis aegypti mosquito, the same carrier of dengue. It causes fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

It is often misdiagnosed as dengue as it shares clinical signs with the deadly disease,  WHO documents revealed. Though Chikungunya has no cure, treatment is focused on relieving the symptoms.

DTI Lauds Bataan Press, Consumer Affairs Council

BALANGA CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry Bataan provincial office here reported that retail and wholesale stores in the province of Bataan had been very helpful to consumers during the past storm-hit months.

Nelin Cabahug, provincial director of DTI-Bataan, attended the Monday’s Consumer Welfare Month culminating activity held at the DTI-Regional Office 3 in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Cabahug lauded the selling establishments in Bataan for imposing the right prices of goods despite the state of calamity raised over the whole province last month.

AG&P interested in buying 10% stake in Bataan LNG plant

ATLANTIC, Gulf and Pacific Co. of Manila Inc. (AG&P) has offered Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) to own up to 10 percent of the planned 2,400-megawatt (MW) integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Bataan. 

“The proponents are giving us the opportunity to take extra investments…maybe up to 10 percent. But we have not made a decision [yet],” said PNOC Alternative Fuels President Dante Canlas.
