6th Halloween Festival in Balanga City

   BALANGA City, Bataan – Around 600 children from public and private pre-elementary and elementary schools in this City joined the Annual Halloween Festival held yesterday at the Plaza Mayor de Balanga.

   Little boys and girls together with their parents, wearing various Halloween costumes made the rounds of 75 different business establishments along the way from the Bataan Provincial Capitol to the Plaza Mayor de Balanga, who put up booths and distributed candies to the children as a “trick or treat”. The Office of the Provincial Governor at the Bulwagan ng Bayan also joined in the trick or treat.

   Cash prizes (P 2,000; P1,500 and P1,000) were given to the top 3 – Best Halloween Costumes in 3 different categories (Kids, Teens and Adults). Ms. Ma. Teresa Robles, past president of Balanga City Lion’s Club; Mr. Herve Martin of The Plaza Hotel; and Engr. Rena Tarasas composed the panel of judges.

   A Halloween Inspired Drum and Lyre Competition added music to the colorful and festive ambiance. Participated by seven schools, Cupang Elementary School emerged as the champion, followed by the Balanga Elementary School while GL David Elementary School landed on the 3rd place. Winners received cash prizes of P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000 respectively. A consolation prize of P 1,000 was given to each of those who did not make it to the top three. Ms. Elenita Dador, DepEd Education Supervisor; Mr. Louie Austria; and Mr. Jose Cabrera from the City Mayor’s Office composed the board of judges.

The Bataan Dental Society also joined the celebration by way of distributing toothpastes and toothbrushes to the children, as a reminder that they should brush their teeth after eating all the candies that they collected in the Trick or Treat.

   Started in 2008 under Mayor Joet Garcia, this is the City Government’s way of providing wholesome entertainment to the residents in the month of October, in lieau of the traditional Oktoberfest.
