Engineer Godofredo de Guzman , environment and natural resources officer of the province, said the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) should clarify the basic issue of functional safety standard of the controversial $ 2.1 billion nuclear plant project.
De Guzman said the principal government agencies having to do with the proposed rehabilitation should discuss the adoption of the latest nuclear-powered technology in western countries.
De Guzman, a chemical engineer and former plant manager of the country’s largest industrial explosive firm, stressed the new improvement in nuclear technology aspect is part and parcel of the advanced scientific knowhow in power development.
Bataan governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia had strongly delivered his message during a BNPP public forum held in Morong town then as a former Bataan Rep. of the 2nd District, “unless I am morally and technologically convinced of the safety features of the nuclear power plant project, I would not allow its rehabilitation”.
The public consultation with the people of Barangay Nagbalayong on the possible rehabilitation of the BNPP the other day aims to provide a venue for the residents to air their issues and concerns, according to DOE Undersecretary Donato D. Marcos for Local Government Units (LGU) Matters. Marcos added the public forum is one of the corporate social services of DOE to objectively feel the pulse of the people and collective decision.
Rep. Herminia Roman of the Bataan lst District reportedly filed a resolution to conduct feasibility study on the rehabilitation of the nuke plant and to determine if the nuclear project is a waste of people’s money.
