Small blessings become big blessings

Also present at the awarding ceremonies were Vice Mayor Renato Matawaran; members of the Sangguniang Bayan; Provincial Focal Person for PWDs Ms. Christina May Ferma; Head of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Ms. Ofelia Mendoza and Sister Lya Lucila of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) Charities.

The assistive devices; 28 wheelchairs, 2 walkers, 4 pairs of crutches and 2 quad canes were sponsored by the LDS Charities. Known for providing humanitarian aid, services and emergency relief assistance in times of disasters, the LDS’ mission is to relieve suffering, to foster self-reliance for people of all nationalities and religions, and to provide opportunities for service.

The LDS Charities forged partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan and signed a Memorandum of Agreement to provide assistive devices for three years. The first batch of assistive devices was already awarded to identified beneficiaries during the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week last July 22, 2014 at the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga City.

Another highlight of the celebration was Mayor Gila Garcia’s sponsoring the Philippine Health Insurance of the PWDs.
