About 1,000 applicants try luck in job fair in Balanga

BALANGA City- About 1,000 applicants on Tuesday flocked the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga City to try their luck in the one-day job fair conducted by the city government.

Noriel Dacion, City Employment and Services Officer, said 27 local firms and 15 companies hiring workers for abroad participated. The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the Freeport Area of Bataan in Mariveles were among the big establishments that joined.

Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III thanked the companies and wished the job seekers good luck.

BALANGA CITY – The Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families here are getting assistance from Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Bataan, though the office primary task is to provide employment services to the people.  

      “OFWs and their families0 here in the province with problems go to our office for assistance”, said PESO Bataan Head Melchor Cui.

          He said their office assists OFWs here in repatriation, orienting them on labor laws and rules directly affecting them, and help them against agencies that breach contract.   

          There are times that PESO Bataan thru DOLE manages to temporarily suspend operation of agencies that violate contract with OFWs here who sought their assistance.

PILAR, Bataan- A tree-hopping adventure will soon open adjacent to the breath-taking Dunsulan Falls below historic Mount Samat in  this tourist-oriented town, the municipal mayor announced Monday.

Mayor Alice Pizarro said they have identified six trees near the falls that will serve as six legs where visitors will enjoy different fun adventure.

Among the attractions to be featured are hanging stairs upward, Elvis dangle, monkey bridge, surfboard zipline, king swing and balance swing.

The mayor said environmentalists need not worry. “Environment-friendly ito at may safety measures upang hindi masaktan ang mga punong-kahoy,” Pizarro said.

Balanga cityhall holds ‘ukay-ukay’ for Yolanda victims

BALANGA City- Some 750 workers of the Balanga City government on Monday opened an “ukay-ukay” outlet at the frontage of the cityhall aimed at raising funds for Yolanda victims in the Visayas.

City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III with some department heads led in the opening of the sale that will last for one week.

“Ito’y bahagi ng fund-raising ng Bigkis Balanga upang makatulong sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo. Proceeds of the sale will be added to other donations received by the cityhall and to be turned over to a relief agency for immediate transmittal to the heavily-affected areas,” Garcia said.

Bigkis Balanga is an organization of cityhall workers.

Gloria Abejar, chief of the City Social Welfare and Development, said the garage sale was an effort of city workers who donated and collected used clothes, shoes, toys, dolls, expensive imported lotions and perfumes and shirts.

“We are turning the items into cash in addition to other used clothes donated to us that we will give  to either Red Cross or Caritas,” the social worker said.

Japanese flood experts conduct study to solve Balanga flooding woes

BALANGA CITY, A team of Japanese flood expert has been conducting a comprehensive study on how to rid this city of  flooding problem, a top official of the Department of Public Works and Highways revealed yesterday.

DPWH district engineer Reynaldo Venturina, 2nd district,  said that the Japanese flood expert team has been in the city recently to come up with a feasibility study on how to address the flash floods that hit this city recently.

“The Japanese consultants had already initiated an initial study, then will come up with a scheme on how to solve the flooding once and for all,” said Engr. Venturina.

Mayor Joet S Garcia and city officials believe that the flash flood that hit the city proper and low lying areas here was brought about by a heavy rains and flood waters coming from the mountains in Upper portions of Balanga.

Bataan accepts donations for Yolanda victims

 BALANGA CITY—The provincial government of Bataan will be accepting donations for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.

Taking instruction from Bataan Governor Albert Garcia, the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO) will be accepting donations in cash or in kind from November 18 to 29 weekdays.

PSWDO Head Marilyn Tigas said they will itemize all the donations they will receive.   

She suggested that donors affixed a list of the items for boxed donations so that there will be no need for them to open it and count all its content.

Tigas said for cash donations, a personnel of Provincial  Treasurer’s Office  will temporarily station to their office to issue receipts.  

Geoff Loyola, executive assistant of  the governor, said that donors must give items truly needed by victims like  tent, clothing, blanket,  canned foods, noodles, bread, toiletries, and soap.

Tigas said the people of Bataan have the urge to help hapless victims of Yolanda and the initiative  of provincial government to accept donations suit to it.
