Cong. Garcia still against nuke plant

Representative Albert S. Garcia of Bataan’s 2nd District firmly believes that the proposed operation of nuclear power plant in Morong town would not bring down the price of fuel.

“Baka nga mas mahal pa ang fuel natin pag nuclear power,” Garcia said in an interview in his residence in Balanga City. He said the rehabilitation of BNPP is now more costly given the escalating price of materials and considering the present state of Philippine economy.

Garcia repeatedly announced earlier that the mothballed BNPP structure is more likely to be converted to a data center which the country needs now because of emerging trend in IT.

Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia in a previous interview said he might go for nuclear power plant if it would be located in other provinces in the region but not in Bataan.

“Palagay ko, after 40 years obsolete na, hindi na natin kelangan ang nuclear power plant dito because we already have freeport zones in the province,” the Governor said.

President Marcos, Jr. signed last September 18 a law promoting safety use of nuclear power creating the Philippine Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (PhilAtom).
