More stake holders have signified their intention to build power plants in the country while the national government is awaiting the completion of requirements.
Mark Christian Marollano, supervising science research specialist of Department of Energy, said the national government is encouraging stakeholders to put up more power plants in the country “to lessen dependence on coal” following the moratorium on coal-fired power plants.
Marollano, a resource person in last Tuesday’s AboitizPower “Power 101” forum said new applicants were not allowed to construct power plant but only those who already processed their compliance papers were given the green light to proceed.
As to when the transition from coal to renewable energy will commence, Marollano explained it was difficult to set a timetable owing to circumstances that might stand in the way.
