Bataan native and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 4-B or Mimaropa Regional Director Wilfredo Mallari is a recipient of the prestigious Gawad Filipino Award by Euro TV Philippines this year. Described as hardworking and inspiring by those he has worked with, the regional director said in vernacular, “This maybe my last award in public service before I retire, and I am overwhelmed by this recogntion”.
“We are happy to report that we are able to accomplish the “Build, Build, Build” vision of the national government in Mimaropa”, he also said. “There are still ongoing projects”.
“He is deserving of the award, he is a model public servant. Hoping he could still continue his service even after retiring”, DPWH Mimaropa employee Mary Grace Bautista said.
Mallari has the distinction of being the first Bataeno to become regional director of DPWH.
He was district engineer in Bataan’s first district for 14 years and in Las Pinas- Muntinglupa, Metro Manila for three years. He rose from the ranks starting as part-time civil engineering aide in 1975 while studying at the Adamson University in Manila. Jun Bringula, veteran local newsman and former president of Bataan Press Club is all praises to Mallari saying “he is a true friend of media”.
