BATAAN CAPITOL — The provincial board here has taken a step to decongest the province’s jails.
“Soon, we are hoping, that our jails here in the province will only have a smaller population of inmates especially in our district jail,” Provincial Board Member Rey Ibe told newsmen in a press briefing held on Wednesday afternoon at the Vice Governor’s office.
Ibe, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Chairman of Justice, Human Rights and Legal Matters; and Trade and Industry commitees, narrated that he is set to meet with all of the Bataan Regional Trial Courts (RTC) and Municipal Trial Courts (MTC) judges and fiscals to talk about the status of thousands of cases filed in courts and prosecutors’ offices here.
The capitol’s legal team, led by the chief legal consultant Atty. Emiliano Pomer, will assist Ibe in conducting the meeting with the provincial judiciary.
BALANGA CITY — A member of the Bataan provincial board is planning to file a resolution requiring owners of idle lands in the province to plant vegetables or fruit bearing trees or be penalized if they failed to comply with the soon-to-be passed provincial ordinance.
Board Member Peping Villapando, who hails from Barangay Batangas Dos, Mariveles, said although Bataan is classified as an industrial province, thousands of hectares of lands here are still viable for developments in agriculture.
“You know, it is important to balance our development as a province. We also need to invest in the environment. Kahit marami nang pumapasok na investors dito para magtayo ng pabrika at magbigay ng maraming trabaho, sana ay huwag nating kalimutan ang kalikasan. Kung magtatanim tayo ng maraming gulay at prutas sa mga bakanteng lupa makakatulong pa tayo sa food security ng ating bansa,” Villapando said.
